About Halifax

HALIFAX, A LIVELY AND WELCOMING CITY ON THE ATLANTIC OCEAN

Halifax, also formerly known as the Halifax Regional Municipality, is the capital of Nova Scotia and the dynamic hub of the East Coast of Canada. With a population of about 400,000, Halifax is situated on one of the largest and deepest natural harbours in the world. The extensive boardwalk running along the waterfront is filled with shops, vendors, entertainment and historical districts.

For a city filled with people richer than its history and roots that stretch deep into the past, it is fitting that our most famous brewmaster was also our mayor three times. With more pubs and clubs per capita than almost any other Canadian city, Alexander Keith’s original brewery from 1820 is just one of the many pubs in downtown Halifax that is open to the public.

Aside from the plethora of bars, Halifax has incredible green spaces dispersed throughout the city that include the Halifax Public Gardens, which boast 16 square acres of Victorian Gardens. Throughout the year, Halifax is home to several events and festivals that include the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, The Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo,Halifax Fringe Festival and the Halifax International Busker Festival.

Halifax is full of amazing independent and global retailers. Whether you like to eat and drink, shop or simply take in the landscape, Halifax has something to offer everyone. With a conveniently located international airport just 40 minutes out of the city, travelling in and out is a breeze.
